Summary Info

This island(127.3 degrees east longitude and 34.26 degrees north latitude), at Yeneri, Bongraemyon where Naro Space Center is located, is well known by anglers for saltwater fishing at Mokseom, Kkotduyeo and Haan Beaches. It also has Narodo Beach with its white sand and old pine trees. The beach was named Naro either because it looks like silk fluttering in the wind or it has ranches where horses were raised for kings. The name Naro is written on the monument to Lee Gun-myeong who was a government minister and it was recorded on a map in 1789. Oenarodo is one of the larger islands (including Gugeumdo, Sorokdo, and Naenarodo)associated with Goheung Peninsula and is 3.5 times larger than Yeoido. Narodo Port was famous as a fish market for mackerel. It was a rich village in that it had electricity and tap water under Japanese colonial rule. It generated one third of the income taxes of Goheunggun and now it has a huge wharf which can accommodate hundreds of fishing boats and a large shopping district. An inland tour, cruises, and a climbing tour to Mt. Bongrae (410m above sea level) are the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the island. The beginning point of the inland tour is Naro Bridge #2(on Gukdo 15) which is connected to Naenarodo, Samguri, Narodo Beach, and Chukjeongri. At one corner of Narodo Beach is an evergreen forest, natural monument #362. The sky is not seen when you are in the forest there. Next to it, 300 cone pine trees and a sandy beach spread out. About 3km from Norodo Port, Gyodong Village appears. It is a short course, but a beautiful coastline can be seen below. The islands and fishing boats look peaceful. Gukdo 15 ends at Gyodong village and the road splits into two. To the left is to Yedang and Haban village and to the right you can reach Yeompo Beach. Haban village is in the middle of the Space Center and a small island named Daehangdo blocks the waves. It looks good with the breakwater and the small beach. As it has become known for its sunrise, a number of tourists come here to see the sunrise on the first day of the new year. On the contrary, Yeompo is a famous place for the sunset falling between islands. It is well equipped with camp ground facilities, washrooms, and a shower as it is a national park. A cruise boat goes out from Narodo port and then returns. It takes two hours and costs 15,000 won. The coast of Oenarodo looks different when viewed from the sea. It is made up of continuous uniquely-shaped rocks. You can see: lying down rocks, a chameleon-shaped rock, a lion-shaped rock, a cave with a legend of an ascending dragon, and animals' nostril-shaped caves. For the climbing course at Mt. Bongrae there is a parking lot for the radio station at the top, the ridge, a helicopter landing pad, a branch road, a Hinoki cypress forest, a remote hut for the radio station. The slope looks gentle, but the climb is very attractive. Walking through the colony of Hinoki cypress feels like walking in heaven. We can feel Spring from the green leaves of barley and garlic. This island is waiting for tourists who feel cold and want to be melted by its warm-heart.
