Summary Info

Bosung's pride is its green tea plantations. They cover the hills surrounding the sea in Deukryang Bay. The green tea plantations look like silk waves, green carpets, and well-trimmed garden bushes. Bosung has the largest number of tea farms nationwide. As the hillsides have been transformed into farms, the tea produced here has the same quality and aroma as that of wild tea. Since old times, there has been a lot of tea produced in Bosung and now wild tea farms have been developed in an area of about 3 ha. As tea produced in an area with sandy soil and a large difference in temperature between night and day it is considered high-quality tea in color, taste, and aroma. Bosung has the best natural conditions to produce tea. Tea farms were first put in here in 1939, a 600ha large tea plantation was made in the 1960s but only 426 ha of it is still in production because of the underdeveloped tea industry. This area produces about 40% of domestic tea production. On May 10 every year, a tea festival titled Dahyangje is held. The village presents tea leaf picking and tea making programs, food made using tea, and pork and beef raised eating tea. There is a record that green tea was a specialty of Bosung. Since the 1990s, as life has become more comfortable, people have begun to prefer tea as a beverage and Bosung green tea plantations have been made known to the public through commercials and TV dramas. It has been said that tea was brought to our country by Kim Dae-ryom, an envoy to the Tang Dynasty under the reign of King Heungduk of the Shilla period. Tea was popular in the Goryeo period when it was distributed to the public, monks, and royal families. There was even a government post named Dabang which managed the tea ceremony at national events. Tea picked around April 20 is good because it has the best aroma and taste. This tea is called Woojeoncha. The tea picked around May 4 is called Sejak, followed by Jungjak and Daejak. As high-quality tea has good taste and low-quality tea is still good for health, there is no need to differentiate in the quality of tea. If you drink a lot of tea, you can have a clear mind, eyes, and ears. It helps in digestion and relieves thirst and fatigue.
